Stock images are often hard to find especialy when it is a past event

Services
I can provide on location wire service and syndication to the UK, national and local newspapers or any other publisher that has ftp access to their server as well as to allow downloading from my image archive.

Documentary, Photojournalism and Reportage
Documentary, News, Reportage and Photojournalism

I specialise in Photojournalism and Documentary work and can wire from the field, I can also supply images in private folders on my archive so they are safely stored for when you need them with your own dedicated access.

As an ex agency photographer supplying National papers with images of news and sport I am very familiar with deadline demands and the need for reliability.

As a photographer, who has a personal interest in social and environmental struggles. I cover a lot of protests and demonstrations for which, I often get dragged through the mud in heavy handed evictions and face arrest, but the issues and events still need covering even though they may not be glamorous, reader friendly or commercially practicable, but I cover them anyway.

I have had training for hostile environments and conflict zones, so there is not much that I am unable to cover when it comes to covering news or documentary subjects in inhospitable places. I also carry the UK press card.

Entertainment. Music and Festivals
Entertainment

I cover live music events and festivals in the East Midlands area, but I do travel when needed and aim to deliver the highest photographic quality and service to music agencies, publications and promoters.

Radical Images provides high quality images taken on top of the range, professional digital cameras of live music concerts and festivals for editorial uses.

To enable ease of use for our customers, I also use the image file archive system which clients can have access to upon request. This allows editors to add, sort and download images from lightboxes as they need, proof print, and discus images or email a complete lightbox or selection of images. Further, images can be remote wired direct from the venue direct to your server.

Accreditation:

I normally recommend that accreditation to be acquired by the publication company wanting the images, all images from an accredited event that you have acquired, go direct to you, we don’t farm out half the images to another source. However if you wish for us to apply for accreditation on your behalf, we will and we still wont farm out your images.

Fine Art and the Erotic Image
Private Collections

Radical images started photographing fine art nudes and erotic images out of demand from his Friends and colleagues. As a photojournalist never having control of the events that unfolded before him, he started working in an artistic way where he had full control of the image and surroundings, which he did for his own sanity and creative impulse. Many of his friends wanted to buy copies, some art directors wanted large prints for their house or office and commercial sales soon followed due to his unique view point on life.

Gary is still a photojournalist as well and he often combines this style when working with models which gives a unique "fly on the wall look," unusual angles or a documentary feel to his images.

Rather than aiming to shoot the perfect body, Gary believes that an erotic image has to have a human element, creating a sensual image and revealing something of the subject’s soul, Gary aims to capture his images as he sees them through the lens, using the computer only for minimum retouching and for showing his work. Gary’s distinctive style has won him much attention as to evoke a response in the viewer as he tells a story which being a photojournalist has helped define this in his images.

He solely uses digital cameras for his work notably a Nikon D2x that allows him to capture the image as he sees it and allowing him to concentrate on working with the models to create the mood and feel and to tell an implied story.

Gary's camera gear for studio work is a Nikon D2x. Lenses are 24 -120mm VR lens, 18-70mm and his favourite 50mm f1.4 which he says "its great for available light work and dropping distracting backgrounds out of focus."

Models are always needed for all levels of work contact me for details

Clients

My clients include the BBC,The Telegraph, Time Out Magazine, Greenpece and private collectors.

What I don't do

I don’t do weddings or pet portraits. I am probably the wrong photographers to contact if you want cheap, instead of fair prices or high quality and good service.

I don’t get in the way or make excuses, nor do I dump a whole load of unedited images on a CD and send them to you late.

I don’t fit in ten jobs a day so we have to rush every one. I Don’t farm out images, that you have commissioned to a rival publication. I Don’t do estimates that are low, just to get your custom and a foot in the door.

What I always do

I offer the highest quality I can, always, no compromise. On budget on time, time after time.

I offer package deals, hourly rates or job rates at competitive prices. We try to work with your system of purchase and invoicing.

I offer to do the first job on spec, providing further jobs are paid commissions.

I try and cover, capture the mood you want for your publication or private session

I colour correct (white balance) and check or adjust contrast, light, colour and clean up noise on images that we send to you.

I am available to give ideas on how to promote your festival and can fit in with your PR team’s needs.

Payment

Invoicing can be done via email or by post and payment methods are check (for invoices) or pay through my archive system, I can also take pay pal for one off account sales. Direct bank wire service can also be catered for, if you have any other requirements please contact me.

So if that’s the sort of photographer you want to do business with then get in touch and enjoy the site.

The majority of the images on this site or archive can be obtained by requesting a quote and can be sold as Rights Managed or Royalty Free.

Image Quality

Hi Res copies can be supplied on request and are available as jpeg, tiff with no compression or can be resized to your needs.

Sharpening

The images in the archive have no sharpening applied as this largely depends on your final use. All images for print sales are optimized before printing to ensure the highest quality

Prints

You can order high quality prints from myself by clicking here, if you don’t see what you want, contact me. All images specially optimized for the highest quality. For print sales Click Here

Wire Service and FTP Syndication

I can also provide on location wire service and syndication to the UK national and local newspapers or any other publisher that has ftp access to their server as well as to allow downloading from my image archive.

Copyright

Gary Austin set up his website, with the clearly defined aim of protecting the copyright of "his work". Further, the copyright laws around the world now offer statutory protection for the copyright of photographers' work except where Gary Austin has willingly agreed to part with the copyright to a client. Gary Austin remains highly protective of his rights, and will not agree to undertake editorial or other media assignment work where the client wishes to hold the copyright subsequently. Gary Austin remains at the forefront of the campaigns for photographers' rights generally, and is aggressive in pursuing circumstances where it perceives the copyright of his work has been breached and where it perceives the law has been broken.

Image Licensing

Images requested and purchased through Gary Austin are offered on an individual license basis - either as Rights Managed Licensing, Royalty Free Licence or a Creative Commons licence. The copyright of the image is always retained by the photographer, Gary Austin. The licenses serve to protect the rights of Gary Austin, the licensee and even the subject matter of the images. Rights management has advantages for the licensee as it can be used to limit the use of a particular image, even allowing the use to be licensed exclusively, which effectively embargoes the use of the same image within the requested media. When an image is licensed, there will be standard terms and conditions outlined with your specific usage rights. This will be sent to you by post or email once the license has been agreed, with the full terms and conditions.

Usage Rights.

When an image is licensed by Gary Austin, the Usage is specified on the invoice and cannot be used for any other purpose without further agreement by Gary Austin. The license will state the media use, language rights and the territories for the Usage. On all images supplied by Gary Austin are copyrighted, you must have permission to use the image from Gary Austin even if there is no fee involved or it is going to be used under a creative commons license.

Usage Fee.

A fee is generally payable to license any rights managed image, unless supplied on a creative commons licence by Gary Austin for non-commercial, non-profit usage’s. This includes images that may appear on Indymedia, or other open publishing media. It is important that you contact Gary Austin if you want to use the Creative Commons Licence as it may affect other rights managed licences in use and there terms, so please don’t just copy the images and use without the permission of Gary Austin. The fee is based on how the image is going to be used. This will be calculated by such factors as the print run, media, the reproduction size, and territory distribution and whether the requested use is exclusive or non-exclusive. Gary Austin calculates this fee by relying in good faith on the information provided by the licensee. Incorrect information can lead to a surcharge on the originally agreed fee and may lead to a cancellation of the license. As a guide I work on the NUJ Freelance rates.

Cropping and Image Manipulation.

Gary Austin works on the ideal that photographs must not be altered, cropped or manipulated in any form without permission from Gary Austin. This is extremely important to me as creative cropping can be used to take the image out of context and would no longer represent the true nature of the scene that the photographer recorded. The rights to alter any photograph rests with Gary Austin and will seek his opinion in any alteration request. Today, many alterations are granted by Gary Austin, but it is necessary to submit a request before the image is reproduced as this may affect the terms of the license and result in an additional charge on top of any agreed Usage fee.

Captions.

All images must be reproduced with or in the spirit of the accompanying caption. If there is any doubt by the licensee, then verification should be sought before publication. For example, an image of a workman on a lunch break looking tired, cannot be captioned by the licensee as a lazy workman taking time off when they should be working.

Credit Lines.

With all editorial rights managed, Royalty Free or Creative Commons licensed photography, Gary Austin should be credited with any reproduction of his work. The credit line should read ©Gary Austin. The preferable location for this credit line is immediately adjacent to the image or in the acknowledgements or credits section. For all commercial and advertising uses, we would request that the licensee would use reasonable effort to provide the same credit line.

Published Images.

Gary Austin always requests at least two copies of any publication featuring an image reproduction upon publication.

Model and Property Release.

Most of Gary Austin’s work is of a documentary or reportage nature, whereby he is documenting the world around him, or reporting on events that he witness. This style of photography does not lend itself to the obtaining of model releases, property release or other releases. Unless specified by Gary Austin in writing, no model releases, property releases or other releases for any images. The licensee is responsible for clearing all necessary permissions from third parties, be they people, buildings, art, art animals, which may include trademarks, personality rights, property rights, fine art rights, etc. The licensee shall indemnify and hold Gary Austin harmless against any and all claims, liability, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees and expenses) arising out of the use of any Image for which:

(a) no release was furnished by Gary Austin in writing.

(b) The use of any Image exceeds the scope of the release provided by Gary Austin.

The licensee will also indemnify and hold Gary Austin harmless against all claims, liability, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees and expenses) in connection with any third party claim arising out of the use of the Images, including, but not limited to, defamation, right of privacy, right of publicity, and obscenity claims. Gary Austin liability for all claims shall not exceed in any event the total amount invoiced per particular image. Gary Austin makes no representation or warranty with respect to the use of any names, trademarks or works of art depicted in any image or the accuracy of captions accompanying any images.

Actions coming soon

Spring Into Action From Thursday 5th – Wednesday 11th April 2007, there will be a week of workshops, events, music and action on climate change happening at different venues across Nottingham.

Climate Camp At The Camp for Climate Action 2006, over 600 people converged on a field in Yorkshire. Over a period of 10 days there were over 100 workshops, ranging from alternative technology to the Kyoto Protocol to non-violent direct action training. The camp was powered entirely by renewable energy, and everybody was welcome to take part in running the camp. The camp was also a base for non-violent direct action against industrial polluters such as Drax, the largest coal-fired power station in the UK.

The 2007 Camp for Climate Action will be even better! Everyone is welcome to get involved. If you have any questions, email info [at] climatecamp.org.uk
